I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas, I know I did.  On the right is a drawing Charmaine made of Tango and me, I think it is a pretty good likeness.

We've been riding pretty much every day.  The levee has good footing even right after a rain so we ride to the gate and back frequently.

The indoor is getting a pretty good work out.  I would like to remind everyone that it is a rule to share the arena, even if you are giving a lesson.  You may not "demand" private use.

On the other hand, if someone is in the arena and you would like to join them - please let them know your intentions before opening the gate.

We plan to have the "First Saturday" BBQ on schedule in January.  That means it will be on January 2 (right around the corner).  We will build a fire in the fire pit and stay warm.  Activities will begin after lunch but you are, as always, welcome to come any time.  Linda and I will guide a trail ride around the ranch if the weather cooperates.  Experienced riders may want to ride a bit more - so just join up with the group you feel comfortable with.

John hired a new stall cleaner to work week days and I think there will be one or two new boarders beginning in January.  Be sure to say hi and make them welcome.  The little house on the corner is rented and the new people will move in soon.

John and Carol got a chance to have a day away from the ranch so right after the morning feeding he handed Linda the keys to the Kubota and left her to watch after the ranch.  We were surprised at the thickness of the ice in the water troughs.  When we turned our horses out Zany spooked and Tango took a bite out of the ice.

Later in the day we met Charmaine and Laurie at the Friesian Forrest and proceeded to get the horses into the Christmas (Reindeer) spirit.

The gang gathered together to feed all the horses.  It was a COLD evening but the time really flew by as we all had a lot of fun (even Santa).

The "First Saturday" BBQ for December was COLD, COLD, COLD!!!
Linda led Charmaine and Shauna on a trail ride along the levee and besides the vineyard.  They all came back frozen.

We then gathered around the round pen and watched Aleia give a demonstration on "Join up" - a processes marketed by Monte Roberts.  While we watched, John and Judy got the grill going and cooked hamburgers and corn dogs.  John built a fire by the picnic table to keep us warm.  Laurie brought some home made bon bons (Oreo based chocolate balls on a stick).  There was coffee, brownies and hot clam chowder to fill any left over empty spaces.

The day before (December 4th) Linda and I rode across the river and around the "island".  It is hard to believe the two rides were only a day apart.  They are removing most of the vineyards - I think to make room for the nature conservancy - birds and things.
